Cultivating serendipity: How to connect the dots for innovation, impact, and abundant luck
League of Leading Ladies Conference 2024 - Christian Busch
Modern life is full of chance encounters, changing plans, delayed journeys, human errors, and other mishaps. But what if we could use such unpredictability to our advantage and create abundant opportunities out of it?

Bestselling author of The Serendipity Mindset, professor Christian Busch, PhD, has spent a decade exploring how, if acted upon, unexpected encounters can enhance our worldview, expand our social circles, and create new opportunities. In this talk, Christian will discuss his latest research on serendipity („active luck“), which allows individuals and organizations to leverage the value in the unexpected and create innovation and impact.

Christian Busch, PhD, is a business professor at the USC Marshall School of Business and a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE). Christian is the bestselling author of The Serendipity Mindset (German version: Erfolgsfaktor Zufall), a “wise, exciting, and life-changing book” (Arianna Huffington) that “offers excellent practical guidance for all” (Paul Polman, former CEO, Unilever). Previously, he taught at New York University (NYU) and the LSE, where he also received his PhD. Christian cofounded Leaders on Purpose (an organization working with Fortune 500 CEOs on their company’s future-readiness) and Sandbox Network, was co-director of LSE’s Innovation Lab, is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Forum, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, among the Capital Magazin’s „40 under 40“, and on the Thinkers50 Radar list of the management thinkers „most likely to shape the future.“
